A message from the Chair

Belonging to Circus WA

Thank you to everyone who has enrolled for Term three. I was keen to share with you some information about how CircusWA works.

CircusWA is run as a not-for-profit community organisation under the guidance of a volunteer Board. I would like to acknowledge the many passionate performers, participants and parents who have supported the board and our admin team to keeping the circus dream alive in Fremantle for over thirty years.

Changes to State legislation governing associations necessitated a complete review of the CircusWA constitution to ensure compliance. This work was carried out by members of the Board over several months and the new constitution was adopted at a Special Meeting of members on 19th June.

Students (and their parents) are the backbone of our community and must be clearly identified as members of CircusWA in order to be compliant with the new provisions. This is why you are now asked to become a member when you make a class booking. The Board has chosen to keep the fee minimal and the money from this will be forwarded directly to our Scholarship program for students who could not afford circus otherwise to attend classes. We currently have four full scholarship students and one partial scholarship.

We look forward to seeing all of our members at the upcoming Friends of the Freo Big Top event this Saturday (4th August) and at our upcoming AGM (October -date TBC). At the next AGM we will be recruiting new Board members. Please think about what you can contribute to CircusWA and consider joining our governance team. We are particularly in need of people with skills in finance, volunteer development and fundraising/campaigning.

I invite you all to join the mentally healthy WA journey …..

ACT – Enrol now and become a member

BELONG – Join our events as a performer or audience

COMMIT – Nominate for the board or offer volunteer hours

Kindest Regards,

Gavin Corfield, Chair
On behalf of the CircusWA Board
